Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Garden is a North Carolina based non-profit corporation that is dedicated to assisting disabled, disadvantaged and homeless veterans to acquire employment, agricultural skills and veteran specific information. Located in the Duffyfield community which is an ethnically diverse and low to moderate income area of New Bern, NC. The garden benefits veterans in the program but also provide access to fresh, nutritious, and affordable food for community members. We are vital in promoting community health and provide not only a source of vegetables and fruit, but also educate the wider community about organics, food, and food security issues. We organized in 2012 using the concept of garden rehabilitation that worked for the Executive Director who is a disabled veterans and was recovering from two surgeries.
Mission Statement:
To provide homeless and disadvantaged veterans with transitional employment and job skills.
To provide disabled veterans with a self-paced rehabilitation site in a relaxing outdoor environment.
To provide the Craven County community youth with agricultural programming through Cooperative Extension 4H programming.
To provide training through NC AgrAbility on modified agricultural equipment which will enhance the ability of the disabled veteran to become farmers and ranchers.
